Small Business

Small businesses help drive the American economy and define the American dream. They add brick and mortar to the values that make our country unique—freedom, self-determination, and the pursuit of happiness. As a child, I learned firsthand the responsibility, drive, and decision-making it takes to operate a small business by watching my parents run our preconditioning feedlot and family farm.
The Big First is home to more than 20,000 small businesses and more than 80% of employees in our district work for one. These businesses are the backbone of our economy, creating jobs, strengthening communities, and keeping the American dream alive. I will always stand with Kansas small business owners, their employees, and the values they represent—cutting burdensome regulations, lowering taxes, and ensuring they have the tools to succeed. When small businesses thrive, America thrives.

It was great joining Kyle Baur on KFRM's "Ag Perspectives" show to discuss my new legislation, the Family Farms and Small Businesses Exemption Act. The Family Farm and Small Business Exemption Act would ensure that students of owners of family farms or small businesses would not be unfairly penalized in the FAFSA process. For more than 30 years, these exemptions have been the standard, and it’s time to restore them before a new analysis formula goes into effect. This is one measurable way for Congress to support the families who help America thrive.
