Rep. Mann Cosponsors, Votes for Bill to Protect Abortion Survivors

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Tracey Mann (KS-01) voted to advance H.R. 21, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. The bill, which Rep. Mann cosponsors, requires that health care practitioners exercise the same degree of care to preserve the life and health of a child who is born alive after surviving an attempted abortion. If signed into law, H.R. 21 will require abortion survivors to be immediately transported to a hospital for care and will require criminal penalties for killing or denying care for abortion survivors. The legislation passed in the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 217-204.
“Every life, born or unborn, has value and is worthy of protection,” said Rep. Mann. “Sadly, not everyone accepts that truth. It is mind blowing to me that anyone could look at a child who survives a botched abortion and declare that life unworthy. I will always defend the right to life, and I’m grateful to see this bill passed in the U.S. House of Representatives. I am proud to advocate for the life and dignity of every child, and I hope the Senate is swift in considering our legislation.”
Rep. Mann is a defender of the right to life. In December 2023, Rep. Mann voted against legislation that would use taxpayer dollars to reimburse abortion travel expenses for U.S. Department of Defense employees. In May 2023, he opposed the Biden-Harris Administration’s taxpayer funded abortion hotline to facilitate referral systems for abortions. Rep. Mann was an original cosponsor of the Born-Alive Survivors Protection Act in the 118th Congress and supported a resolution to condemn attacks on pro-life facilities and organizations. In June 2022, Rep. Mann applauded the U.S. Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
H.R. 21 will now go to the U.S. Senate for further consideration.
