Rep. Mann Blocks Big Government Overreach, Federal Abortion Policy

December 14, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C.Today U.S. Representative Tracey Mann (KS-01) voted no on H.R. 2670, the National Defense Authorization Act. Rep. Mann released the following statement after the vote.

“I am a staunch supporter of our nation’s military, but I could not in good conscience vote yes on this legislation,” said Rep. Mann. “It would facilitate abuse of government surveillance of Americans at the Federal Bureau of Investigations and extend taxpayer funding for abortion at the U.S. Department of Defense. I voted no today because of my stance on freedom in the face of government overreach and my commitment to the right to life enshrined in our Constitution.”

Rep. Mann voted no on H.R. 2670, the National Defense Authorization Act, which passed in the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 310-118. The legislation:

  • Extends the controversial and often-abused Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), without reforms

  • Continues to allow the Department of Defense to use taxpayer dollars to reimburse abortion travel expenses to its employees

  • Includes a two-year extension of $300 million for the Department of Defense’s Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) fund, which abuses Presidential power to fund foreign governments’ defensive capabilities without accountability

  • Maintains President Biden’s Green New Deal executive orders, allowing the Department of Defense to purchase electric vehicles and impose greenhouse gas emission reporting on certain contractors

The National Defense Authorization Act will now be sent to President Biden to be signed into law.
