Mann Votes to Boost American National Security, Deter Communist China

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Tracey Mann (KS-01) voted yes on H.R. 8036, the Indo-Pacific Security Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2024. The legislation, which passed in the U.S. House of Representatives with a vote of 385-34, counters communist China’s influence and deters their aggression in the region. Rep. Mann released the following statement after the vote.
“For decades, Taiwan has been a strategic trade, economic, and military partner to the U.S.,” said Rep. Mann. “America’s relationship with Taiwan allows us to bolster our defense capabilities in the Indo-Pacific and deter Communist China’s aggression. The U.S. must be clear – we want to keep peace in the region, but any military offense against Taiwan would have grave and severe consequences. Today, I voted to invest in Taiwan’s security and America’s security. America cannot allow Communist China to go unchecked in their aggression toward our friend and democratic ally, Taiwan.”
The Indo-Pacific Security Supplemental Appropriations Act:
- Bolsters Taiwanese defense capabilities by enhancing production and development of artillery and critical munitions
- Strengthens U.S. military capabilities in the region
- Replenishes defense articles and services provided to Taiwan and regional partners
In September 2023, Rep. Mann voted in favor of the State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations Act which eliminated funding for the Chinese Communist Party, countered Communist China’s malign influence, and illustrated U.S. support for our democratic ally, Taiwan. In February 2022, Rep. Mann opposed House Democrats’ partisan bill that conceded American interests to China and put American security at risk to the Chinese Communist Party.
As laid out in his commitment to the Big First, Rep. Mann is committed to ensuring Kansans and future generations a nation that’s safe and a future that’s built on freedom.
