Rep. Mann Votes to Cut Spending, Reduce National Debt

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, U.S. Representative Tracey Mann (KS-01) voted to cut government spending, secure the southern border, and end the weaponization of the federal government. Rep. Mann released the following statement after his votes on H.R. 4367, the Homeland Security Appropriations Act, H.R. 4365, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act, H.R. 4368, the Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, and H.R. 4665, the State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations Act.
“I serve in Congress to advocate for agriculture and our conservative Kansas values,” said Rep. Mann. “As I look at our nation’s budget, I make decisions based on reducing and reprioritizing government spending, securing our southern border, dealing with the weaponization of the federal government, and delivering on my commitment to the Big First. My votes reflect those priorities.”
Rep. Mann voted yes on H.R. 4367, the Homeland Security Appropriations Act, which passed in the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 220-208, and which would:
- Reject Biden Administration-requested funding that encourages more illegal immigration
- Prohibit funding for electric vehicles, saving $97 million
- Fund the completion of the southern border wall and require Secretary Mayorkas to build a physical barrier
- Add 22,000 border patrol agents
- Provide resources to counter the flow of illicit fentanyl and synthetic opioids coming across our southern border
Rep. Mann voted yes on H.R. 4365, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act, which passed in the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 218-210, and which would:
- Restrict new funding for Ukraine
- Defund positions at the Department of Defense (DoD) that weaponize the federal government
- Prohibit the DoD from using federal funds to perform medical procedures to change a service member’s biological gender
- Modernize the U.S. military with next-generation technology and pay increases for all military personnel
- Counter Communist China by making an investment in security cooperation with Taiwan
Rep. Mann voted no on H.R. 4368, the Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, which failed in the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 191-237. Rep. Mann voted no because the bill:
- Failed to conduct adequate oversight of nutrition programs
- Sought to reduce the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s budget by more than 40% and decrease all program budgets by 14.15% without any prioritization of which programs received cuts
- Failed to support land-grant university research and significantly reduced the ability of USDA to deliver in rural America
- Ignored Kansas farmers’ legacy and contribution to global food security by cutting 70-year-old food aid programs by 70%
Rep. Mann voted yes on H.R. 4665, the State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations Act, which passed in the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 216-212, and which would:
- Eliminate funding for the Chinese Communist Party
- Prohibit funding for regulations that disadvantage American businesses, including the Biden Administration’s executive orders regarding arbitrary climate goals
- Illustrate support for our democratic allies like Israel and Taiwan and counter Communist China’s malign influence
- Support religious freedom abroad and maintain all long-standing pro-life protections
- Address the backlog of passport applications
On July 27, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 4366, the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act. Rep. Mann voted in favor of the bill.
On September 21, Rep. Mann called for the return to fiscal sanity and regular order in Congress.
