Mann Rejects Tax Subsidies for Communist China

September 13, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Tracey Mann (KS-01) voted to advance H.R. 7980, the End Chinese Dominance of Electric Vehicles in America Act of 2024. The legislation will prevent the Chinese Communist Party from benefitting from tax subsidies created for electric vehicles by Washington Democrats in August 2022. The End Chinese Dominance of Electric Vehicles in America Act passed in the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 217-192. Rep. Mann released the following statement after the vote:

“The Biden-Harris Administration’s Green New Deal policies have created a de facto electric vehicle mandate that ignores the facts and bullies American manufacturers,” said Rep. Mann “Two years ago, Washington Democrats rammed through an overtly partisan wish list that handcuffed U.S. manufacturing, expanded their ridiculous war on fossil fuels, and propped up Communist China at the cost of the American taxpayer. Washington Democrats chose again today to prop up the CCP on American’s dime, but House Republicans and I rejected that ridiculous notion. A communist regime that openly steals our intellectual property, violates basic human rights, and thwarts America’s interest in the world should not benefit from American tax incentives. Period.”

Rep. Mann spoke on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives to make it clear that America is not up for grabs. He also supported legislation this week to protect U.S. farmland and intellectual property from China.

Since coming to Congress, Rep. Mann has worked to hold Communist China accountable. In February 2022, Rep. Mann opposed House Democrats’ partisan COMPETES Act that failed to address China’s malice behavior or protect America’s interest. Later that month, Rep. Mann pushed the Biden-Harris Administration to make the U.S.-China agricultural trade relationship more balanced. In July 2023, Rep. Mann voted to advance legislation that supported America’s defense and countered the Chinese Communist party. Rep. Mann has continued to advocate for the U.S. to become less dependent on China by reining in federal spending and restoring fiscal sanity.

H.R. 7980 will now go to the U.S. Senate for further consideration.
