Rep. Tracey Mann's Statement on the Budget Reconciliation Blueprint

Rep. Tracey Mann released the following statement regarding the budget reconciliation blueprint:
"Today, Speaker Pelosi forced a vote on a $3.5 trillion budget blueprint through a tool called budget reconciliation.
Reconciliation was created in 1974 to reduce the national deficit through a simple majority vote. The idea was that through reconciliation, elected leaders would put aside political preferences and instruct congressional committees on how to best prioritize the country’s spending for the next year. Since January, Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats have instead used reconciliation to pass the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan in March and today’s $3.5 trillion budget blueprint, both passing on party lines only.
I voted no on today’s budget blueprint because it is dangerous for America. It’s the largest tax and spends measure in American history, adding trillions to our already $30 trillion national debt. It includes damaging taxes, falling largely on the shoulders of middle-income families, small businesses, and family farms. It includes no safety measures to address President Biden’s negligence in Afghanistan or the crisis at our southern border.
Today’s passage of the budget blueprint is not the final passage of the eventual budget we will see from the reconciliation process. The budget blueprint now makes its way to congressional committees, where I will continue to oppose this reckless spending that mortgages America’s future."
