Rep. Mann Holds Biden Administration Accountable for Failing to Secure the Border

November 30, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Tracey Mann (KS-01) voted yes on H.R. 5283, the Protecting our Communities from Failure to Secure the Border Act, which would prevent the Biden Administration from housing illegal immigrants on federal land.

“President Biden’s border crisis has resulted in drugs on our streets and crime in our neighborhoods,” said Rep. Mann. “Turning public spaces into ramshackle communities for illegal immigrants is dangerous and unfair. President Biden should be working with Congress to secure the southern border instead of using America’s parks as a backstop for the immigration catastrophe he created. While we continue the fight to secure the southern border, this legislation is a measurable way to show our communities that they are not forgotten.”

H.R. 5283, the Protecting our Communities from Failure to Secure the Border Act, which passed in the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 224-203, would prohibit federal funds from being used to provide housing for illegal immigrants on any land under the jurisdiction of the Federal Land Management agencies, including the National Park Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Forest Service.

On May 11, Rep. Mann voted yes on H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act of 2023, which passed in the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 219-213. The legislation would require the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to resume construction of the southern border wall, increase the number of border patrol agents, reform the asylum process, and terminate catch-and-release.

On July 19, Rep. Mann voted yes on H.R. 3941, the Schools Not Shelters Act, which passed in the U.S. House Representatives by a vote of 222-201. The legislation would prohibit the use of public elementary and secondary schools and institutions of higher education to provide shelter for illegal immigrants.
