Rep. Mann Fights Overreaching Waters of the U.S. (WOTUS) Rule

March 9, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. –Today, U.S. Representative Tracey Mann (KS-01) voted yes on a resolution under the Congressional Review Act to demand a review of President Biden’s Waters of the U.S. (WOTUS) rule, which removes longstanding bipartisan exemptions for common water features like ponds and streams found on private property.

“Producers have been forced to operate their businesses under three different definitions of ‘water’ in the last 10 years, which is totally unacceptable,” said Rep. Mann. “With this vote, Congress made it clear that we will stand up for American farmers, ranchers, agricultural producers, and others affected by President Biden’s overreaching and band-aided definition of water on private lands. This WOTUS rule would amount to the largest private property grab in modern history. While President Biden would like to regulate every small stream, ditch, and puddle from sea to shining sea, American producers have been the careful custodians of their own resources for centuries. They are the original conservationists, and their livelihoods already depend on their voluntary efforts to care for their water resources. Producers and water users at the local level know their communities best, which is why I support water rights and oppose federal authorities overstepping state and local water laws.”

Rep. Mann also voted in support of the WOTUS legislation last week during the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee's markup.
