Rep. Mann Fights Inflation, Holds Biden Administration Accountable

March 1, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Tracey Mann (KS-01) voted to hold the Biden Administration accountable and protect taxpayer dollars with his yes vote on H.R. 347, the Reduce Exacerbated Inflation Negatively Impacting the Nation (REIN IN) Inflation Act, legislation he also cosponsors.

“Inflation is a tax on all Americans,” said Rep. Mann. “For two years, the Biden Administration enjoyed almost no oversight from the Democrat-controlled House and Senate as it burned through taxpayer dollars with sweeping executive orders. The REIN IN Inflation Act, however, will force the Administration to publish the inflationary impact of its executive orders before enacting them. From canceling the Keystone XL Pipeline to pushing socialist “Green New Deal” regulations on small businesses, President Biden must be held accountable for the harmful impact of his failed agenda, which continues to drive up the prices of goods, gas, and groceries.”

When President Biden took office, inflation was at just 1.4%. According to the Consumer Price Index from January 2023, inflation hit 6.4% for the calendar year 2022.

The REIN IN Inflation Act would require the Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors and Office of Management and Budget to prepare a report including the inflationary effects of any executive order with an estimated impact of at least $1 billion. The White House would then be required to report these findings to Congress to increase transparency and accountability over executive actions.
