Rep. Mann defends U.S. energy and national security, opposes Chinese Communist Party

January 12, 2023

Washington, D.C. -Today, U.S. Representative Tracey Mann protected American energy security and national security with his yes vote on H.R. 22, the Protecting America’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve from China Act.

“The Biden Administration has been radically irresponsible with America’s energy resources,” said Rep. Mann. “The President is not only waging an all-out war on fossil fuels and the American energy sector but also draining our Strategic Petroleum Reserve and selling oil to China. Both of those moves are unthinkably short-sighted, and now Republicans are working to stop the madness, support American-made energy, and provide relief to American consumers at the pump.”

On March 31, 2022, President Biden announced the release of one million barrels of crude oil a day for six months from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR). Now, after the Biden Administration sold more than 40% of the stockpile, the SPR is at its lowest level since 1983, and our adversary China has the world’s largest government-controlled supply of oil. President Biden is ceding American leadership and strength to China and jeopardizing our energy security.

The Protecting America’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve from China Act prohibits the drawdown and sale of petroleum products from the SPR to China or any entity that is under the ownership, control, or influence of the Chinese Communist Party.
