Rep. Mann Anticipates President Biden's State of the Union Address

February 6, 2023

Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Representative Tracey Mann (KS-01) released the following statement ahead of President Biden’s State of the Union address.

“Tomorrow night, President Biden will face the nation in his second State of the Union address," said Rep. Mann. "Over the past two years, Americans have continued to pay the cost of his reckless government spending and irresponsible policies. Throughout his first two years in office, President Biden has shown that he is out of touch with the needs and priorities of Kansans in the Big First, but tomorrow night, he can finally address some of the most pressing issues affecting their lives. I have hosted more than 140 town halls in the Big First, and I have heard Kansans’ concerns loud and clear. People are worried about the humanitarian crisis at our southern border, inflation, and devastating taxes on middle-income families; they are in disbelief over the flagrant violations of the right to life and the Second Amendment; and Kansas producers are looking for a strong Farm Bill that strengthens crop insurance, invests in trade programs, and protects farmers from government overreach. Given what I’m hearing from people in the Big First, tomorrow night I will be listening for President Biden’s thoughts on:

  1. Signing the Farm Bill into law, supporting American farmers, ranchers, and producers.
  2. Fixing the problems that his decisions on WOTUS and the lesser prairie-chicken have caused.
  3. Ending the crisis at our southern border.
  4. Decreasing the national debt.
  5. Addressing the workforce shortage.
  6. Restoring American energy independence.
  7. Helping small businesses still recovering from COVID-era policies.

If President Biden fails to discuss these concerns, it will show how out of touch with rural America he really is. Regardless of what the President says or fails to say tomorrow night, my Republican colleagues and I have hit the ground running in the 118th Congress. We have passed legislation that defends our energy security, protects the sanctity of life, defunds the IRS army, addresses the Chinese Communist Party’s destructive influence, and holds the Biden Administration accountable for their weaponization of the federal government. Voters gave Republicans control of the House to address issues like these, and we’re just getting started. Let’s hope that President Biden can get on board with the real priorities of Americans.”
