December 10, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Tracey Mann (KS-01) voted to advance S. 4367, the Thomas R. Carper Water Resources Development Act (WRDA). The bill improves America’s ports and harbors, inland waterway navigation, flood and storm protection, and other aspects of the nation’s resources infrastructure. Rep. Mann secured language for various Kansas priorities including robust support for the Manhattan levee project, authorization to initiate a study on the replenishment of the Ogallala Aquifer, and a provision to amend storage contracts for Milford Lake and Perry Lake that will save Kansans nearly $41 million in interest payments. Rep. Mann released the following statement after the vote.

“The Water Resources Development Act delivers for the Big First District,” said. Rep. Mann. “It improves our communities by putting taxpayer dollars in places where we can see a return in our own backyards. Most importantly, WRDA includes support for numerous projects that are crucial to the Big First, including the levee project in Manhattan, a study to determine how to refuel the Ogallala Aquifer and better position Kansas to combat droughts, and much needed changes to storage contracts from Milford Lake and Perry Lake that will provide much needed financial relief for Kansas and those that utilize the storage. WRDA 2024 is a win for Kansas. I look forward to its passage in the U.S. Senate and it being signed into law."

The Water Resources Development Act of 2024 passed in the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 399-18. The bill will now go to the U.S. Senate for final approval before being sent to the President to be signed into law.
