ICYMI: Rep. Mann Applauds President Trump's Aid to American Farmers

SALINA, KS – Today, U.S. Representative Tracey Mann joined Meet the Press Now to applaud the Trump Administration's announcement that they will provide $12 billion in bridge aid to American agricultural producers.
Rep. Mann released the following statement after the announcement:
"American agriculture has no stronger champion than President Trump," said Rep. Mann. "After four years of President Biden being asleep at the wheel with no trade deals, no positive news for farmers, and a Department of Agriculture hyper focused on Green New Deal policies, our farm economy struggled with record-high input costs and warped global markets. President Trump is bridging the gap from four years of chaos into a new golden age for American agriculture. Thank you, President Trump, for standing with our nation's farmers and for giving them much-needed relief as they plan for the year ahead."

In case you missed it...
[On President Biden being asleep at the wheel]: Without question the Biden Administration was asleep at the wheel for four years when it comes to ag trade. When President Trump ended his first term there was an ag trade surplus of $6 billion. When Biden ended his term there was a deficit of $40 billion. So we went years without new trade deals, no positive news for farmers as far as trade goes. President Trump has come in and he is righting the ship and that takes a while. When you run a ship into an iceberg you have to stop the ship, bail the water, repair the ship, and pick a different direction. That's exactly what we're seeing happening. These deals are getting done.
[On getting fair trade deals]: Our farmers want trade, not aid. We have to get better, fair, trade deals. The two crops that have been impacted the most by trade talks this year are soybeans and sorghum. We are seeing China make announcements that they are buying soybeans and sorghum. The President said today, he's been very adamant about requiring China to live up to their deals. Beyond that, we have got to continue to open new markets and that is where Biden failed for years in doing no new trade deals, opening up no new relationships. When there is a level, fair playing field, our American farmers can compete around the world. We have to get these trade deals done. Unfortunately, the Trump administration was handed the baton way behind and now they're working to try to catch up.
